  • The Mercury is Rising...Is Your Pool Ready for Summer?

After a slow start to the warming temperatures spring brings, we know your ready to get your pool out and get it filled up. The best way to get your upcoming swimming season started is to inspect your pool liner and pool accessories. Accessories and hosing can crack or become weak in the cold of winter months and dry rot in the heat of the summer months. These important pieces are often overlooked until you need them most. Additionally, replacement hoses, gaskets, strainers and adapting accessories can be hard to come by during the summer time. Your pool and/or accessory owner's manual is the best reference for confirming that you have the needed parts and quantities.

Before laying out your pool liner and filling it with water,we recommend first inspecting your hoses and fittings to ensure they have not been damaged while in storage. Hoses are used with all filter pumps, maintenance vacuums and surface skimmers. Starting with the filter pump, inspect the hosing from one connection to the other looking for cracks and breaks in the line. Once hosing is confirmed to be water ready, take apart the pool wall inlet and return fittings making sure each are free of damage and buildup.  Again, reference your owner's manual to make sure you have all the pieces needed to make secure connections between pool and hose. If your pool requires adapters such as plunger valves or Intex Hose Adapter B, carefully inspect these items as well. Test all fittings' ability to create an air tight seal before proceeding.  We suggest replacing all items that show or demonstrate any damage; your pump will not work correctly without an effective seal.

Once you have confirmed that your accessories and filtration system are ready for use it is time to lay out your pool liner. Unroll or unfold your liner carefully, all the while inspecting the seams and creases where the liner was folded for suspect spots. Cracking, warping and tearing can happen during storage and should be looked for while slowly and carefully inspecting all liner surfaces. If you notice anything out of the ordinary we suggest patching the area before filling you pool up with water. If you have an easy set pool, inflate the pool ring and leave inflated for 24 hours to check for air leaks (a small amount of deflation can happen during the cooler night times). If you have an Intex frame pool view your owner's manual and make sure all frame parts are present and functional.

  • It's Time To Open Your Pool

Spring is here; although for many of us it doesn't quite feel or look like spring yet. Hopefully as April approaches the weather will begin to warm up and it will be time to start thinking about opening up your swimming pool.

Opening your swimming pool doesn't have to be a hassle and with a few simple tasks, your pool can be ready to enjoy in no time. Cleaning up debris that has accumulated over the fall and winter around your pool is a very important step. This debris if not cleaned up can end up in your pool, damaging the outside of the pool and become a hazard to people around your pool while they are swimming.

Secondly, make sure you have the right chemicals and equipment for your pool. Many chemicals can expire from one season to another, so check the expiration labels to make sure they are still good and if you need to order new chemicals, Blue Fade has a large supply of pool chemicals that can be ordered and delivered quickly.

Next, remove your pool cover. We suggest getting the help of a family member or friend to help you remove the cover to make sure standing water and debris do not enter the pool. Once the cover is removed use your skimmer or pool vacuum to clean out any debris that if left in the pool.

Finally the most time consuming step is to inspect your entire pool, from top to bottom checking for damage and leaks and replace or fix any issues that could effect your swimming pool. This includes also checking the filter pump to ensure that it will filter your pool correctly and if you need to replace anything, you order replacement parts before you officially open the pool.

If you follow these few step while opening your swimming pool, you will be able to successfully use your swimming pool and have an enjoyable season of swimming with family and friends safely.

  • Is A Salt Water System Right For Your Pool?

Salt Water Pool Systems have be come increasing popular over the years. Many above ground pool owners enjoy having their pool feel like the ocean, specially when it might be hundreds of miles away for some. If you have not looked into or own a salt water pool system we encourage you to look into them and possibly even take the plunge into converting your above ground pool. Below are some common asked questions we got asked alot that will help you make your decision.

    How Much Does It Cost?

It is true that salt chlorine generators do cost a good bit of money. The average system can run anywhere between $800-$2000, but if you look at it another way: Swimming pool owners that use salt, in many cases, will spend less than $100 a year on chemicals compared to regular chlorine users who spend over $300 a season. So yes, it is expensive in the beginning but in the long run, cost saving.

    Is it Hard To Maintain?

Salt water pools are very low maintenance. Most users need to check their water once a week to make sure the system is producing natural chlorine. Beyond that, there is very little one needs to do, other than balance the water on occasion.

How Will My Pool & Equipment Perform?

As far as a fiberglass pools, salt will have no impact on the shell's surface longevity. And as far as the general equipment is concerned, the only drawback is the fact that pump seals (w/the filter system), an inexpensive part to replace, wear out quicker with a salt generator. But overall, there are no significant equipment and pool problems.

If you are interested in upgrading your pool to a salt water system, contact Blue Fade to find out more information or to purchase a new system.

  • Choosing The Right Above Ground Pool

Are you and the family are looking to buy a pool but don't know which one to get? The options are endless, above ground, in ground or an easy blow up pool. How do you know which one to buy? We'll tell you right here, the difference between each one and what pool would suit you and your family.

Easy Set Pools: are up in minutes and as the title says, are easy to put up. Most of the easy set pools are cost efficient so if you are on a tight budget this might be the pool for you. Easy set pools are more suitable for younger children, but may be for adults as well.

Metal Frame Pools: are more sturdy and last longer. The walls are able to hold up the water in one place and keep its form. Metal frame pools are costly depending on the size. This pool can be geared towards children and adults.

Both pools need equal maintenance by the owner. The more you take care of it and treat it well the longer it will last. It is recommended to get warranty for either pool, in case a malfunction were to happen. They will both need filters and proper tools to maintain the quality of the pool.

  • Algae: A Pools Worst Nightmare

Have you ever planned a pool party and suddenly discovered your pool water is green? Do you consistently find your pool to turn green no matter what you try? Cool Inflatables knows exactly what you need to kick the algae out and enjoy your swimming pool again.

Algae is a small plant organism that likes to grow in warm, dark, un-sanitized water. The most common pool algae is green in color and spreads very fast. If you find this algae in your pool it is important that you clean it up quickly and consistently keep your eye out for future outbreaks.

Some helpful tips to keep Algea out of your pool are:

    • Keep the walls and floor of your pool clean by brushing the pool with a standard pool brush attached to a telescopic pole

    • Vacuum your pool once or twice a week

    • Skim the surface of your pool water everyday

    • Run your filter and pump for 8 to 12 hours per day

    • pH should be between 7.4 and 7.6.

    • Free chlorine level should be at 3 ppm.

Items you need to clean up an algae outbreak:

    • A 5 gallon bucket of water

    • Calcium hypochlorite pool shock

    • Stirrer

    • Gloves

    • Protective eyewear

    • Clothes you don’t care about

Now it's time to get to work:

    1. Fill your 5 gallon bucket with warm water or pool water.

    2. Pour in ONLY 1 pound of chlorine shock carefully.

    3. Slowly stir the shock into the water with a wooden paint stirrer. Avoid splashing.

    4. Take the shock mixture and slowly pour it around your swimming pool.

    5. Let your pool run overnight

    6. If your pool has turned a cloudy blue color, you have successfully destroyed the algae. If the pool is still a green color, repeat the steps until completely gone. Brush, vacuum, check your chemicals, and re-shock the pool with the amount of shock you need for the new color.

We hope that these tips and step to preventing algae and cleaning up an algae outbreak will help keep you swimming pool in perfect condition this year. Contact Cool Inflatables today for pool chemicals, equipment, supplies and more.

  • Above Ground Swimming Pool Corrosion

Did you know the your swimming pool could face possible corrosion which can damage the life of your pool if it is not properly maintained? There are several different factors that can cause corrosion of above ground swimming pools such as improper ph levels, total alkalinity, or even keeping improper salt or chlorine levels. It is very important to keep your swimming pool water chemicals at the proper levels, and also repair any swimming pool leaks.

Salt water systems are more likely to face corrosion but the use of sacrificial anodes are used to help protect the metal components of your swimming pool when you are using a salt system. These sacrificial anodes come in a variety of ways. A utility anode which is placed in a skimmer basket can be submerged into the pool water and connected to the metal part of your swimming pool you would like to protect.  There are also anodes that are made specifically for your swimming pool ladder and you swimming pool light, to help prevent those items from becoming corroded.

Cool Inflatables is a direct distrubutor of all Intex pools, supplies, equipment and more. To purchase supplies, equipment and other items for your above ground swimming pool, contact Cool Inflatables today.
