Phthalate Information

At the Blue Fade Marketplace we are parents too, and we want all our customers to know that we are rigorous in our product selection regarding the safety of our children and yours. As of February 10th, laws regarding the amount and type of Phthalates used to produce toys have changed. We are gladly abiding by these new laws and would appreciate the opportunity to share the new regulations surrounding the use of Phthalates in the toys we sell.

What Are Phthalates?

Phthalates are chemicals used to soften toys, making them more pliable. Phthalates are used in everything from nail polish to air fresheners. Raw PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is very hard and hard to work with; phthalates are added to make the material softer therefore increasing it’s uses. Recent studies have shown certain Phthalate levels beyond trace amounts are not healthy for humans.  Intex Recreation has taken the initiative to produce items which comply with The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). You will see markings and indicators on all 2009 Intex kids floats and toys assuring you that these items do not contain any harmful phthalates.

What Are The New Rules Regarding Phthalates?

Toys that are classified as “Children’s Toys” are items meant to be used by children under the age of 12 when playing. All Children’s toys must not contain more than 0.1% of the three Phthalates known as DEHP, DBP and BBP.

Toys that are classified as “child care articles,” meant to be used by a child under the age of 3 years old cannot contain more than 0.1% of the six Phthalates known as DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP and DnOP.

How Will We Know What Product to Buy?

CoolInflatables.com and its affiliates have worked together to include a notation on all the items that are free of certain Phthalates. Look for the logo designating an item as 3P Free or 6P Free to ensure your item is compliant.

3P/6P Free: 3P is a designation for all children’s products that we carry, 6P Free is a designation for products that are safe to be placed in a child’s mouth that is under the age of 3.

3P Free: These products contain less than 0.1% (1,000 parts per million) of the Phthalates DEHP, DBP, BBP.

6P Free: These products contain less than 0.1% (1,000 parts per million) of the Phthalates DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DNOP. Products with the suffix NP or EP are 6P free products.
